Estimator Application Engineer

SUMMARY

This position analyzes blueprints, specifications, request for proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects, or services by performing the following duties.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide controls expertise, quoting services, and sales representative duties as needed through project life.
  • Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
  • Review project documentation, communication with project engineer, customers and co-workers, develop understanding of the processes being controlled and the requirements for completion.
  • Maintain working knowledge of process control, process applications, products and changes within our industry focus.
  • Recommend R&D initiatives based on customer needs and judgment.
  • Complete technical writing for proposal development as well as articles or newsletters as needed.
  • Continuous improvement of sales estimating tools. Develop, refine, and maintain summary price lists and estimating spreadsheets.

QUALIFICATIONS

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from Two-Year College or Technical school in Controls Engineering, electrical, technical writing type fields; with 1 to 2 years experience preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  •  3 - 5 years of experience in a sales position for process control equipment and/or demonstration of general technical sales competency preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES – COMPETENCIES

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, technical procedures, process flow schematics, electrical drawings, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and project engineers.
  • Ability to direct others both verbally and in writing.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS (as relevant)

  • Current driver's license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, but can become loud while on site. Must be able and willing to travel 15% of the time as a minimum.
